COVID-19 Update: Good News for Dallas County

We have heard about the current spike in the number of daily new COVID-19 infections across the country. The same has indeed occurred for Dallas County. However, the daily number of fatalities has continued to trend down, and the daily number of hospitalizations is not close to overrunning the hospital capacity. To be more specific, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services, the past spikes in the number of new infections for Dallas County occurred on July 26, 2020, at 1267, and on August 18, 2020, at 1850. Relative to those, the number of new infections for Dallas

COVID-19 Update: Good News Still Exists for Texas

According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, while COVID-19 new daily infections have spiked some since dropping, the state is still experiencing a decreasing rate of daily fatalities and the hospitals are not near overrun. Our case positivity rate is still below 10%, which is a critical value noted by the CDC. Indeed, this is very good news. In referencing the daily number of new infections, the peak occurred on July 14, 2020, at 10,745. Following this, the state experienced the lowest number of new daily infections on September 28, 2020, at 1397. Since then, there has been

Welcome Back to Our Resuming Dental Care!

We are so pleased to resume our dental care for you! Thank you so much for your trust, loyalty, and desire for returning to our office! It means a great deal to us that you are back! As many of you know, the governor had effectively shut down all dental offices for about six weeks. Even though dentists are considered “Essential Critical Infrastructure Workers,” I did not feel very essential during that time. I wanted to contribute in some meaningful way. I wanted to help to keep the economy and people’s lives going. However, I understand the intent of the

COVID-19 Mortality: How the United States Compares to Other Areas

Oftentimes, mortality rates compare the number of deaths attributed to novel coronavirus infection to the number of those who have tested positive to the virus. The problem with this is that the percentage of the United States population that has been tested is below 7%, and this number varies among differing areas. To me, it makes more sense to use the mortality numbers of the World Health Organization, and to compare that number to the total population of the area in question, found simply by Googling. This then offers a better representation of current mortality rates which can be compared

Our Open Dental Office, Now at Three Weeks!

It is so nice to be open again! It is so good to see you all happy, healthy, and ready to have access to more community services and experiences, with caution. I feel so privileged and grateful for your trust! So many of you have kept your pre-scheduled appointments, and so many of you are wanting appointments! We value you so much. It means a great deal to us to be serving you after being shut down by our governor for over six weeks. It is you who make us feel ”essential!” While the office was shut down, I have

Venincasa Dental Office Re-Opening Monday, May 4, 2020!

Governor Greg Abbott has allowed for dental offices to fully re-open when prepared. We are so excited to let you know that we will fully re-open our dental office this Monday, May 4, 2020, at 7am! Yes, things have changed in this life in many ways. We recall seeing images from China in January 2020 with merchants taking temperatures of their clients, and with people wearing face masks in public. We may have thought something like, “Man, I am so glad this is not happening here,” or something like, “This could never happen in the United States.” My, have things

Open For Severe Emergencies Only, Through May 1, 2020

As a result of the COVID-19 mitigation protocols being extended across the country, our Governor Greg Abbott and our state dental associated organizations have made it very clear that dental offices must continue to be closed to patient treatment across the state, unless there is an emergency situation which may lead to a hospitalization if not cared for within the dental office, or if eating by the patient is too difficult. The current state Executive Order has extended this protocol through May 1, 2020. Details will become apparent at any day now; we are awaiting guidance form the state board

Behind the Surgical Mask: Another COVID-19 Story

I am a general dentist in Dallas, Texas. Because of this current COVID-19 Pandemic, Governor Greg Abbott has, by executive order, closed down dental offices across the state for over a month for all but the more emergent of circumstances that result in a patient’s inability to eat or that may cause an emergency room visit if a dentist does not intervene. Many other businesses and workers have been adversely affected as well all across the country. This is a very surreal position to find ourselves in. This came upon us very suddenly. We had no idea there would be

We Are Open for Patient Care

The state of Texas, city of Dallas, Collin County, and the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners are allowing some dental offices to remain open. We are following CDC news and guidelines, we are taking everyone’s temperature (including us), we are offering a short questionnaire for screening purposes upon arrival (including us), and we are taking more precautions than we are accustomed to in order to maintain a disinfected and sterile environment. Thankfully, our scope of business makes us very familiar with creating a place that is safer than most all businesses. Also, we do not use the N-95 respirator
