Is Your Sweet Tooth Sensitive to Sweets?

The holidays are coming! To some degree we are all preparing in our own way. Included in our celebrations of course is enjoying holiday and Christmas treats. Do you have a tooth that has been sensitive at times? Do you have a tooth that aches when you lay down at the end of your day? Are you taking a mild analgesic like Advil, Motrin, or some  prescription pain medication you have “laying around”? Do you wake up with tooth pain in the middle of the night? Are you eating or drinking more on one side of your mouth to avoid

How Can I Prevent Broken Teeth?

We are asked this question quite a bit; how can I prevent broken teeth? These patients may explain that they brush two to three times daily, they may floss daily, and they maintain their regularly scheduled preventive appointments. However, even with all this, patients may still have problems with broken teeth. There a number of things that can be addressed. First, are there teeth with large fillings? In teeth with larger fillings, the resultant tooth structure is thinner because of the size of the filling. With a thinner tooth, the tooth is weaker. So with the tooth being weaker, it

Do Cracked Teeth Need Crowns?

Cracked teeth are quite common. Images of these on a monitor can be quite impressive. Dentists and hygienists may encourage patients to pursue a crown as a result of the presence of a crack in a tooth. Choosing an Obamacare (ACA) Dental Insurance Plan

We realize there is still much information that is not yet defined under Obamacare, the Affordable Care Act (ACA). We do have patients asking us questions about it. We understand that for many it is a requirement to obtain an ACA plan. We also understand that many individuals are not familiar with choosing a dental plan at all. That is the purpose of this post; we want to offer some information on selecting an ACA dental insurance plan. We have heard our president in the past indicate that you can “keep your doctor”. Perhaps we can extrapolate this to being

How Do Dental Crowns Work?

There are numerous ways that dental crowns work. Basically crowns strengthen teeth while fillings weaken teeth. So then it follows that the larger a filling is, the thinner the surrounding tooth structure is. Then the thinner the surrounding tooth structure, then the even weaker the remaining tooth structure. With a crown a stronger and more intact material is placed over the tooth in order to hold the tooth together and to provide a stronger surface on which to bite and chew. In this adjacent image is shown a tooth with decay around the fillings. Upon removal of the filling and
