As some of you may know the enrollment period for Obamacare began for the second year on November 15, 2014. Still many are unaware of this. Moreover, according to CBS News, a recent poll from the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation found that only 20% of Americans have a favorable view towards Obamacare. Clearly there is still an uphill battle.
To add to this uphill battle. there are some unpleasant surprises with Obamacare coming this second year. First of all, the lower priced plans have higher premium rates. Secondly, the penalties for failing to secure a plan will rise sharply, potentially up to $975 per family. Thirdly, any applicable penalties for not securing a healthcare plan will be deducted from one’s applicable tax refund in early 2015. Lastly, all the insurance plans have increased premiums anywhere from 7-18%.
With all this there is some good news. First, there are some loopholes for getting out of the penalties for not securing a healthcare plan. Secondly, about 20% more people have health insurance than compared to 2013.
