Partial Dentures
Partial dentures are recommended when more than one tooth is missing. They are particularly helpful when teeth are missing in several areas of an arch.
While bridges and dental implants have gained much popularity over the years, partial dentures can be just the right option for some patients.
Partial dentures can replace a number of missing teeth. They are secured to the remaining teeth either with clasps or dental implants.
A significant benefit of partial dentures is price. Partial dentures can be made at a fraction of the cost of restoring with dental implants or with bridges.
Another advantage: when there is not enough jaw bone present to place dental implants, or when a bridge cannot be done because all molars on a side are missing, partial dentures can be a better option.
Partial dentures do carry some disadvantages. Food may collect under or around them. They do move a bit, so some effort may be necessary to get accustomed to wearing them. They must also be removed while sleeping, to allow the gum tissues to rest and to have better exposure to air, which maintains a healthier mouth.
We perform partial denture procedures in at least three visits in order to provide a higher-quality result. With more appointments, we can assure that the aesthetics and the bite are most accurate.
Complete Dentures
Whether from disease, malnutrition, or genetic disorders, sometimes it is necessary for all of a patient’s lower or upper teeth to be extracted.
While this can be emotionally devastating, complete dentures can provide a second chance at a beautiful smile with well-functioning teeth.
Complete dentures provide multiple functions. They allow for more efficient chewing, a more pleasing facial appearance, and an improvement in speech.
With immediate dentures, patients can have a full set of teeth while waiting for their gums to heal after tooth removal. Healing can take up to six months, so immediate dentures are a great alternative during that time.
Sometimes, complete dentures are not necessary. In fact, dental implants may also be recommended for retaining full dentures. We carefully evaluate each patient for what is best for them.
